Lowbrook Primary School, Maidenhead

New classroom building with Sedum mono-pitch
roof
In line with its eco-friendly policy,
the school wished to obtain a new classroom building which, in addition,
could be used as a teaching resource for the pupils to learn from the
environment and demonstrate that environmental awareness does not compromise
the quality of the experience they have within the environment.
The new building is of a highly insulated timber frame construction with
Western Red Cedar cladding under a Sedum roof with an extended canopy
along the front elevation. Large sliding folding doors to the front of
the classrooms gives access to the outdoor environment for an evolving
curriculum, providing sensory experiences leading to greater levels of
creativity and understanding. The interior has the benefit of underfloor
heating thus maximising the available wall space.
